Producer and studio information
Hololive Production or simply known as Hololive is a Virtual YouTuber (VTuber) agency owned by Japanese tech entertainment company Cover Corporation. The name originally referred to the 3D streaming app developed and launched in December 2017 by Cover Corp before being used for its new all-female VTuber agency, whose first generation debuted from May to June 2018. Ultimately, the app was withdrawn from public stores and utilized internally as a face capture application, with its name being repurposed for Cover Corp’s new VTuber agency. In December 2019, Cover's female Hololive branch was merged with male HOLOSTARS branch and INoNaKa (INNK) Music label to form a unified "hololive production" brand. In 2019 and 2020, the agency also launched three overseas branches: hololive China (since disbanded), hololive Indonesia, and hololive English. And In 2023, Hololive debuted a new JP branch, hololive DEV_IS with a focus on group project and group activities. As of January 2026 there are now 85 active talents under Hololive and its branches (30 Hololive, 12 Holostars, 9 Hololive ID, 15 Hololive EN, 10 Holostars EN, 9 Hololive DEV_IS), of which 43 active members have over 1 million subscribers each. Hololive is currently one of the biggest VTuber agency in the world with some of the most subscribed, watched and superchatted VTuber channels on YouTube. Motoaki Tanigo known affectionately as YAGOO, is the co-founder and current CEO of COVER Corporation, the parent company of Hololive Production. According to Tanigo, the idea for a "virtual idol" agency was inspired by other virtual characters, such as Hatsune Miku. Kizuna AI, who began the virtual YouTuber trend in 2016.
